In part 2 of this two-part series, we continue our trek across the Grand Canyon State. Beginning at Williams Junction we explore BNSF's Seligman Subdivision east through Flagstaff while a fast moving snowstorm blows over the Arizona Divide. The weather improves as we follow the Southern Transcon over Canyon Diablo Bridge and through the big sag into Winslow Yard.

The high mountain forests transition into open country accented by the vividly shaded badlands of the Painted Desert as trains head east over the Gallup Sub to the New Mexico border. We will visit locations such as Joseph City, Holbrook, Arntz, Adamana, and Coronado Junction, before reaching the state line beneath the beautiful rock cliffs at Lupton. Intermodal, manifest, grain, and coal trains ply the rails on this busy corridor.

7 Idea The Wasatch Grade - Union Pacific’s Evanston Sub

Standing guard over the Utah-Wyoming border the massive cliffs of the Wasatch Mountains divide the rolling grasslands to the east from the salt deserts to the west. The immense features once echoed the bark of the largest steam locomotives on earth. Today they reverberate with the drumming of mighty diesels climbing the Wasatch grade.

In this program we will explore the Union Pacific’s Evanston Subdivision between Ogden, Utah and Green River, Wyoming. This is the classic grade over the Wasatch Mountains where the Big Boy’s once roamed. Highlights include scenic Weber and Echo Canyons, monster 200 car manifests cresting the summit at Wahsatch, and cleaning up a derailment at Peru that wiped out both main tracks. As a bonus, see historic footage of Big Boy 4014’s return to the Wasatch grade while heading to Cheyenne for restoration.

7 Idea Train Mountain Triennial 2022

One of the best known events in the Live Steam hobby is the Train Mountain Triennial in Chiloquin, Oregon. After being postponed for one year, the Triennial was back and better than ever in 2022! This was the 8th such meet since the year 2000 so it was officially called Triennial VIII. It ran between June 20th and 26th and was preceded by a work week from June 11th to the 19th. 

This program begins by recounting the devastating wildfire and subsequent mud slide that dramatically changed the north end of the 2,200 acre railroad park. Stirring footage and images tell the story of the destruction and massive cleanup effort by hard-working volunteers to get the track back in service. 

You will see amazing work trains hauling ballast and pine needles during the Triennial Work Week and meet the “Super Sucker!”

With the Triennial in full swing, hundreds of trains roamed the rails pulled by classic steam, diesel, and electric locomotives. True to tradition, Triennial VIII wrapped up with the Big Toot and Parade of Trains.

Vision Productions takes you to the Mid South to view the Kansas City Southern and the Katy in the 1980’s. From the 8-millimeter films of Fred Crissey, we start with the KCS. From the years 1987 and 1988, Fred captures this class one in the states of Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana. Many trains are seen traversing scenic Rich Hill with locomotives wearing their white paint scheme. Burlington Northern locomotives show up frequently assisting on coal trains.

Then it is back to Kansas and Oklahoma to see the last of the Missouri, Kansas, Texas.

Greg Scholl 463 On The C&TS

K-27 2-8-2 number 463 is the oldest regularly operated steam engine on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. In September 2014 we spent several days capturing this engine on 2 different freight trains(For Engineer & Fireman School Freights), plus we get to see it doubleheading with K-36 number 487 on the first fall doubleheader of the year. Its a great show of 463 plus the doubleheader action.
